Are you really satisfied?

Written by Daily Inspirer Team.

And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. (NIV) Matthew 6:28-33

It is common to find humans expressing concerns about meeting basic needs of life. Many people struggle through the days just to be able to find food to eat, water to drink and clothing to wear. It is obvious that these basic needs will remain with mankind to the very end. Being satisfied or clothed today does not secure that of tomorrow.

In the above passage, it becomes clear that dominating once thoughts with meeting basic need is a sign of unbelief. Thus, it is associated with unbelievers and not with Christians. Jesus compares human life with that of flowers. Comparatively, human life is more valuable than flowers. And so should our thoughts be directed on things which are more valuable than food, water and clothing. The more valuable thoughts guaranteeing satisfaction therefore, are the ones that seek after Christ’s Kingdom (The Church) and its righteousness. Many people miss the order and find themselves in the pool of worrying. Instead, the believer’s secret in finding satisfaction in life is to seek first God’s Kingdom and its righteousness. By this, all other things shall automatically be catered for as God supplies all our needs according to His riches and glory (Matthew 6:33, Phil. 4:19).

God demonstrates His providence to mankind by feeding the Israelites for 40 years (Exodus 16:35). Interestingly, while some people struggle to find a single meal in a day, others lament over eating the same food over and over again. In both situations, they hunger and thirst after temporal and worldly things. However, they can be blessed when they thirst and hunger after righteousness. By this, they shall be filled and find satisfaction! (Matt. 5:6).
