The economics of the kingdom

Written by Mantebeah Elizabeth Matilda Abena.

All praise to God, the father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ. (NLT) Ephesians 1:3

The blessing of the Lord makes a person rich. And he adds no sorrow with it. (NLT) Proverbs 10:22

It is one fine morning and as usual in the wake of her busy schedules, Abena and her heavenly father continue with their regular chats from the previous nights. She repeats all the things she needs for this year to Him. She was hopeful of a favorable answer although she didn’t know what exactly He would give her (i.e. give her exactly what she asks or give her something similar) and when He would provide them.

This is a regular thing they do all the time. That is, she talking and Him listening and vice versa although the former in most case, is obviously what happens. This lady just loves to talk to God and so it happens that on that fateful morning, just in a blue, a provoking thought intruded the sanity of their discussion. It was the Daddy saying “have you thought of the following terms in economics and their implications in a person’s life?”

Needs and wants! You say you want this and need that. Do you know what they mean to your life and in the relationship we have? If you want something it means you can do without it. And if you need something it also means that not all needs are satiable. The thought just left Abena speechless and in laughter. "Oh really! wow! never knew there was economics in the kingdom too."

Beloved you may be wondering the essence of this message but blessed are those who have already understood without any explanation. Day in day out, we send our requests to the almighty expecting that He answers us and more importantly in a way we desire and deem right. Unfortunately when this doesn’t happen we don’t take time to see the kind of calculations the Lord has made in giving us what we have.

Yes, we all want the best in life but the best is what God gives to us. He didn’t give you what is man’s best but what is His best (Christ) and the fountain from which every other need and want flows from. What this means is that whatever physical or material desire you wish to achieve this year, it ought to stem from His best.

So if we can really do away with every want and understand that all of our needs can’t be satiable, then why vent all this anger? Why do all the worry and the crying? I know it is very difficult at times to lift up your head in difficult moments but when you learn that in the kingdom, God’s economics is supreme, you understand the need to embrace His will; for in His will, you will receive the best you deserve irrespective of your needs and wants.

So as the year unfolds, I encourage you to dream but to dream in His will knowing that He has done all the economics relevant to your life’s needs and wants. Be blessed in the Lord and in the power of His salvation.
