Why worry?

Written by Nana Kwame Owusu-Afriyie.

“Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?” (NLT) Matthew 6:27-30

I normally do not download the videos people send on WhatsApp with my mobile data unless the sender tells me how important it is. When I go to my faculty at the university campus, all the videos pending automatically downloads once I put on my WI-FI. Last week, in order to free up space on my phone memory, I decided to delete some videos from my folder. I chanced on a particular video I have not watched before. It was a less than two-minute video but the lesson is highly profound. It was about a man who was speaking to an audience obviously on the subject of “worry”. He showed them a slide that contained these words

“Do you have a problem in life?”

“No!”

“Then why worry?”

“Do you have a problem in life?”

“Yes!”

“Can you do something about it?”

“Yes!”

“Then why worry?”

“Do you have a problem in life?”

“Yes!”

“Can you do something about it?”

“No!”

“Then why worry?”

Beloved, there is absolutely no justification for worrying. A lot of people in the world are filled with worry about their marriage, how to raise their kids, their schooling, their career, the unknown, death, etc. Worrying fills us with anxiety, anger, resentment, and bitterness. I believe asking yourself these questions will help you deal with worrying and anger. Why worry?
