I am sorry

Written by Alhassan Mohammed Sandargo.

“Therefore, confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. " (NIV) James 5:16a

It is an issue of contention as to which is the easier- genuinely saying “I am sorry” or accepting the same words genuinely. On one hand, it is seen as utter abasing of oneself whilst on the other hand, one sees it as having been “cheated”. We are inclined to being in either position one time or the other. But how better the world would have been if we could strive to accommodate each other, accept our faults, seek to uproot any bitterness and treat others kindly.

It is never true that confession of one’s fault is out of place. Neither is interceding for others something to be discontinued; keep it up, dear one. Due to the countless encounters of hurts and offenses in our lives, the Lord has provided ways of curbing and ameliorating the impact. From the words of our mouths, the gestures of our bodies and to the very thought of our hearts we both offend and get offended.

Did you pulse today, to tell a friend or ‘foe’ that you are sorry? Did you take time to realize that forgiveness is to be given generously as it is sometimes sought by us also? Do you really want to obtain that peace that surpasses all understanding (that only God can give) Philippians 4:7?

Do you want some kind of healing for both body and spirit? All these are totally possible when we learn to humble ourselves in confessing our sins to each other, and embrace each other, give each other that ‘second chance’ we love to also be given in our shortfalls.

Let us remember to say ‘I am sorry’ whilst we also prepare to accept the apology of those who wrong us and we shall be indeed be healed.
